cieKAWA

New, fantastic place on the map of Gdansk, wherefrom the 1st of August you can drink delicious coffee, eat a delicious bun and support an unconventional initiative that aims to activate mentally disabled people. The idea is bold and quite innovative, but we can not imagine that it could bring anything other than benefits, both for employees and customers of cafes. cieKAWA is a project that aims to connect people, support the weak, not exclude anyone, help make dreams come true. In this atmospheric place, in the historic center of Gdańsk, your favorite coffee will be served by disabled baristas, who would, if not Krzysztof Skrzypski (founder and the boss) would never have had the chance for such direct contact with the client. They have attended many pieces of training, each of them has a guardian in the workplace who will provide them with good advice and support in the event of a crisis. They are prepared, full of enthusiasm and willingness to work. Earlier, therapeutic and rehabilitation workshops for people with intellectual disabilities took place at 68 Świętojańska St. In addition to activating disabled people, the cafe adheres to the zero-waste principle, every customer who comes across a coffee with their own mug will receive a 10% discount, while the others will drink coffee in a 100% biodegradable mug.

cieKawa is part of an Interesting Social Cooperative, which also includes a professionally equipped kitchen (created by two non-governmental organizations - Gdańsk near the Polish Association for People with Intellectual Disability and the Teneo Foundation), in which homemade preserves, desserts, and cakes are prepared. An interesting Cooperative is definitely a project whose ambitions reach further than you might think. At the moment, it is planned to open another gastronomic point, where soups and dumplings will be served!

We keep our fingers crossed for the initiative from Gdańsk and we hope that other cities will soon join it.
